How to Start a Blog in 2022 Part 3

You’ve heard it time and time again – blogging can make you money! But how do you start blogging? There are several different ways to approach blogging, depending on what your goals are and what kind of content you’re interested in sharing with your readers. In this three-part series on how to start a blog in 2022, I’ll walk you through the most popular options and help you determine which one will work best for you as well as some tips on how to get started right away!

The Content Creation Method

Once you’ve decided what topic your business will cover, then it’s time to create awesome content for that topic. When it comes to content creation, there are some proven strategies you can use. We call them Content Creation Methods. You may have heard of them before as they’re also known as blogging methods or blogging plans. They work equally well for any type of website; not just blogs. In fact, we use these same principles to run our design company Strat Collective and they keep us busy with clients from all over the world.

Getting your feet wet as a blogger

Starting your own successful blog can seem intimidating and nearly impossible. But if you start small and learn from your mistakes as you go along, there’s no reason why you can’t be one of those overnight successes that we hear about so often. The key is breaking down each part of the blogging process into an achievable goal—you can do it! Now that your domain name has been secured and hosting platform selected, it’s time to focus on another important aspect of starting a new website: writing content. You might have chosen blogging as your passion or full-time job because you have something to say.

Learn blogging before starting a blog

For many bloggers starting from scratch, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by all of the different things that go into having a successful blogging business. And while there are many ways you can fill your knowledge gaps and learn these strategies, we suggest simply doing what comes most naturally—learning by doing. In other words, pick up an inexpensive domain name or hosting package and start putting content on your new site right away! Though we don’t recommend publishing anything until you’ve spent some time refining your brand story and developing your content strategy (and know how it all fits together), we do encourage new bloggers to at least create their websites early on.

Don’t forget design and usability!

When you’re thinking about blogging for business or blogging as a business , it can be easy to lose sight of what your users will think about your posts. Remember that having great design and usability are just as important when you’re starting out as they will be when you’ve got thousands of followers. For example, don’t write an entire post without showing how much work went into it by taking a picture of yourself at your desk with your laptop open. Or add an enticing call-to-action such as using MailChimp to drive readers towards a landing page where they can get more information or sign up for updates .

Should you outsource all your blogging?

Nope. Don’t outsource your blogging! At least not if you want your business to be successful. Although outsourcing might seem like an easy way to write more content or increase revenue, it’s actually counterproductive. If someone else is writing on your behalf (even if they’re doing a great job), you run into several issues: You lose all ownership of your brand voice and writing style; You can’t capture new readers because most bloggers won’t link back to competitors; And finally, when someone does read content from you and other bloggers on your website (especially ones who don't link back), that person doesn't associate their reading habits with YOU.

The importance of reviews

In addition to providing information about a product or service, reviews are critical for businesses looking to gain exposure and boost sales. In fact, research has shown that as many as one third of consumers will check out reviews before they make a purchase. Since so many people rely on reviews when shopping online or offline, it’s important that your business makes it easy for consumers to leave their thoughts. Use Social proof: To encourage customers to leave feedback and ratings—and inspire their friends and followers to do the same—make sure you tell potential customers how many others have left feedback after purchasing your products or services. You can also use social proof by giving featured snippets highlighting other companies who have enjoyed success with your services.

Integrate external links within posts

The reality is that publishing content will do little for your audience if they can’t find it. Using link-building techniques will allow you to drive traffic and increase social engagement. Make sure you include links within your posts that can direct readers to more of your content. Do not use them simply as a way to get some extra likes on Facebook or Twitter—create relevant content that your readers want to read, and include links within those posts to more of your content (if appropriate). This is known as link building – when done correctly, it is an extremely effective way of increasing brand awareness and driving traffic and customers to a website or business. The good news is, it is fairly simple for anyone with basic computer skills.

Guest posts to build authority and reach new audiences

Building an audience takes time. It’s not always easy to attract new visitors if you don’t have existing authority or value yet. One of my favorite ways of building an audience is through guest blogging: authoring articles for other blogs (or websites) that are relevant to your industry and link back to your site. The goal is that over time you will get ranked higher on search engines as links build up and people start visiting your site because they read something you wrote on another one.

How do you monetize your blog?

Depending on your topic, you might have lots of options for monetizing your website. I won’t go into every one here (or even give you an exhaustive list) but I’ll outline some of my favorites. You may have heard about affiliate marketing before – it’s when you earn commissions from selling other people’s products. This typically means signing up with an Affiliate Network like Amazon Associates or Share-A-Sale. Once you sign up with them and decide on your niche and begin recommending their products on your site (you never directly recommend that they sell theirs), every time someone buys something through that link and pays for it, they pay commission to you as well.

Creating eBooks for passive income.

When blogging for money, you have two main options: You can work at making as much money as possible from display ads and sponsored posts on your site (which is what I'm doing), or you can create an eBook and sell it. This second option is more passive. You write it once and sell it over and over again. The upside is that you don't have to keep writing new content over and over again. The downside is that making money with eBooks takes more time upfront because of all the research involved.
