3 Ways to Install a New Theme in Your Blogger Website

Installing a new theme in your blogger website can be helpful if you want to change the way your content appears, as well as give your site an overall makeover. Whether you’re updating an existing theme or installing a brand new one, this guide will help you along the way. By the end of it, you’ll know exactly how to install themes in blogger websites using the following three methods: the visual editor, clicking Activate Theme and FTP transfers.

1. Installing a New Theme via URL

Installing themes from your website’s URL can be done easily by following these instructions.

1) Click on Design, which is found under Settings.

2) In Design settings, select Themes and then click on Add Themes.

3) Choose which theme you would like to install and enter its URL into the box provided (it will typically end with .xml).

4) Hit save changes and after some loading time, your new theme should appear at the top of your Themes list! Just click on it when you want to activate it for use with your website.

5) If you don't see your new theme, try refreshing your browser or restarting blogger.

6) You can also upload a new theme directly from your computer. To do so, download your theme file and drag it onto your desktop (or wherever else you'd like to store it).

7) After downloading and storing, return to Design > Themes > Add Themes

8) Click on Upload A Theme

9) Locate where you stored your downloaded file

10) Double-click on that file 11) Select Use This Theme

12) Save Changes

13) Your new theme should now appear at the top of your Themes list! Just click on it when you want to activate it for use with your website.

2. Installing a new theme via ZIP file

If you've never installed an HTML/blog theme via ZIP file before, you're going to have some work cut out for you. With that said, it's not impossible. First, head over to your WordPress dashboard. Next, hover over Appearance and then click on Themes > Add New. Then upload your new theme by clicking on Upload Theme and selecting your ZIP file from your computer (remember: make sure you downloaded it first!). Once selected, click Install Now and wait until you see Theme Installed. If everything worked out correctly (and assuming you followed these steps), then it should show up under Themes > Active when finished installing. Repeat as necessary!

Since bloggers do not allow uploading themes directly via their Dashboard, we need to install them using FTP client or cPanel File Manager. In order to install themes using FTP client there are two things you need to do: connect with FTP client and locate directory where you want to install theme files. After that go ahead and download the theme archive file onto your computer (usually is compressed .zip). Unpack zip archive into any folder which is located inside of the web root directory of your hosting account. Go back into File Manager in cPanel or connect with FTP client again and navigate through directories until you find wp-content folder. You will notice newly added folder named themes where all WordPress themes are stored on your hosting account now.

3. Installing A Demo Site

One great way to quickly check out new themes before installing them on your actual site is by browsing through our Demo Themes page. There, you can preview and play around with any of our designs without fear of making drastic changes to your site. Simply click Try when viewing any demo, install it onto a separate part of your site, and see if you like it! Remember: just because you choose one theme doesn't mean that another won't be better for your specific needs or content. With so many different options available, don't be afraid to shop around! If you need some advice on how best to test new themes before installing them, see our post How To Choose The Best WordPress Theme For Your Site. It'll give you tips on what questions to ask yourself while looking at various demos, plus help make sure you avoid choosing a design that doesn't fit your brand.
